With WordPress.org sites, you have to select Akismet as a plugin.
I’m using WP 3.0.1 and the Twenty Ten theme in the blog I created for a friend, Angry White Male. Akismet installed without problems and is working perfectly. Be sure you follow the instructions for obtaining the API key.

I added Akismet and the key. However, when I click on Akismet Stats in the Dashboard, i get “This website cannot display the page.”
Anything wrong?

I received that message until after some comments were posted on the blog. Once there were comments, the message disappeared and never returned.
Did you also add the WordPress.com Stats plugin? I recoomend that one.

If you have an API key for Akismet, you must have opened a wordpress.com account, yes?
