Hi,
Unfortunately this is not something I can change as this is the ‘normal’ behavior for the WordPress plugin/theme update process. I always recommend to make backups when customizations are done to the files in the plugin folder (in the readme, the update notice, the release notes and on the forum).
The pictures for teams, stadiums and flags, if not used from the ‘standard’ assets, can better be chosen from the media library in WordPress. The plugin supports this.
