Advice creating members section

    Hi,
    I am setting up a second WordPress.org site for a charity so can’t (yet) supply the URL.
    On the site I am going to need a section restricted to members only so will need a log-in plugin.
    Once logged in they will be automatically taken to a page showing thumbnails and brief descriptions of numerous items.
    Clicking the item they will be taken to a page with the full details of that item.
    Please, can you advise me on the best plugins to achieve these aims and as it is for a charity website preferably plugins that do not cost a lot.

    Thanks, Lisa,
    I am hoping someone who has tried a few will come back with a suggestion. I think I am going to need 2 different plugins. One for the actual login and the next for the thumbnail page I mentioned.
