• If i put a place for advertisements into a theme I haev created for people to download on WordPress, how exactly does that work?
Do I have to write something special into the code and what does the user have to do to put in an advertisement?

  • Most people use plugins to place ads within their templates and place widgets within the templates appeareance.

    Hey
I am talking about from the theme creating side of it, do I have to implement some kind of code or just put places for ads.
Check out this theme and see on the right side the slots he keeps open for ads

    Thanks

you can add something into the code, but indeed it is very easy to overcome that. So it is better to create really great product in order some of the users allowed to leave the ads

    Hello Steven
Can you clarify that a little, I didnt totally understand that.

ALso lets say a user download this theme
    http://wpthemes.blogohblog.net/

How does he place the ads he wants in the place put aside for them (on the right)

this is weird – in firefox the link gives me a preview of ‘Simple paper’, while IE7 gives me ‘Corp Blue’ – both without any places for ads ?!?!?!!?!/???

    back to your question:
@neodan is right, if you provide a widgetized area for the ads, the user should be able to use plugins and advertising widgets.
more important – don’t forget to add some detailed instruction to your theme on how to use the ad areas.
i think this would be enough.

If you search Blogohbloh its the firebug theme, please check it out. Is there no way to place adds without adding plugins and which plugins are best for it?

i can’t comment on the plugins for advertising, never used them.
in general, as you know yourself, there is the editing of the code (which is what i do) or putting the ad code in text widgets (works fine for google adsense), or linked images (typical these ad125 squares), but these all require some cooperation and understanding by the user.
therefore the clear instructions – a readme.txt and html/php commented text in the files where the ads need to be added 😉
