Hi Cédric,
Thank you for contacting us regarding these issues. To answer your questions:
1) I’ll try to explain why we chose to display the current information by looking at the information displayed on our website. If you open a recipe on kitchenbug.com (or use the clipper to analyze a recipe on another site) then you’ll see that we are trying to help our users understand the data. In other words want to simplify the information display, make it so that you don’t need a degree in Nutritional Science in order to know if a recipe is applicable for you. We use green and red colors and simple clear sentences so that by quickly looking at the information the user will be able to decide what to do with this recipe.
The only exception to this rule is the information for diabetics. This is something that we are currently testing and will provide specific, thorough information for people with Type 1 or 2 Diabetes.
If you wish to see the scientific references behind the information provided then it is available on https://www.kitchenbug.com/kb/health-icon-reference/ .
2) At the moment we do not have the necessary resources to support another language. As Kitchenbug grows we will be adding more languages. I do not have a timeframe for this yet.
3) We started of with the USDA database and have added similar databases from other countries (Australia, Japan and so on). For specific brands we use the information provided by the companies who manufacture the products. Our database is updated on almost a daily basis.
Please let me know if you have further questions.
Kind Regards,
Gilad

Thank you for your very fast answer.
1) Have you considered adding a template feature that would allow to customize the display ? For instance my website would be for more advanced user and I would display information sur as some mineral ratio, glycemic load, and protein index (for bodybuilder). And I would also remove some information, such as the cholesterol one beacause lately, non-oxyded cholesterol has been proven good for health and it doesn’t increase bas cholesterol.
3) Perfect to me.
2) Ok I see. This is unfortunately a blocking point for me (I am building a french website). I assume it’s not just about having a translator. There are also signicicant programming and I can’t just tell you “I will handle french translation”, right ?
Regards,
Cédric
Hi Cédric,
1) Alas, adding such a feature would require quite a bit of work. However I have added your request to our roadmap. We will implement a template option when we redesign the recipe view for external users (blogs and so on).
2) That’s true. Translating the ingredient database is just one side of the issue. Our NLP (native language processing) engine would also have to be taught French 🙂

Thank you very much for all of your answers.
Do you have a newsletter or something that will keep my up-to-date on your plugin progress ?
Regards,
Cédric
You can sign up to our newsletter on https://www.kitchenbug.com/kb/. However, this is not a technical newsletter so whilst awaiting posts regarding new features you’ll be getting more content updates and the like.
I’m afraid we don’t currently have a dedicated plug-in newsletter.
Kind Regards,
Gilad
