Well I think the server update is complete and I really can’t see a solution, apart from waiting a few days to see if the server sorts itself out. I can’t even migrate the blog over to my other webspace as I can’t even get into WordPress to change the URL before migrating it.

    Really cheesed off.

Okay, totally had enough of this. I just can’t find anything wrong with the webspace or the server and yet the site still will not work at all. Even a fresh install of WordPress won’t work and still brings up a blank page, and I can’t move the site onto another server as I can’t get into the dashboard to change any settings. Whether this was a plugin, the server upgrade, or anything else, I really cannot see a solution.

Well, a fresh install of WordPress leaves the plugin out of the equation. And leaves in question what your host server change was?

You can use phpMyAdmin to set the site-url and home values in wp_options.

    I get

    Network Error (tcp_error)

    A communication error occurred: “”
The Web Server may be down, too busy, or experiencing other problems preventing it from responding to requests. You may wish to try again at a later time.

FINALLY! I seem to have fixed it. Minus the contents of my plugins (which Im about to fix now) the site is back.

Seriously, thanks for all your help guys! I won’t make the topic resolved just yet, I’d like to wait a little bit to double check all the pages etc, but this may be a lucky escape this time.

Moral of the day, back up!!

    Cheers

If possible, let us know what you fixed. Thank you.

    Michael,

I’m not 100% sure, I did a few things so I’m not exactly sure.

From the looks of it, the server upgrade disturbed my nggallery plugin and corrupted one of the files in the plugin. This in turn, seemed to wreck havoc on my website (hence the disappeared Admin area when I logged on in the morning). So with me thinking it was just the plugin (and unaware of the server upgrade until later in the day) I renamed the plugin, and it worked a little bit – I got my site back, but not the admin area. But because the upgrade didn’t seem to have finished refreshing, or whatever it does, the site wasn’t working properly anyway.

After many hours, I backed up the site and removed it from the webspace. Hours later, I reuploaded it and after a couple of reuploads and a fresh install of WordPress it magically started working again. (Maybe the server was still updating to this point?)

However when I put the courrupt plugin back on the site, it went blank again. This time with the webspace behaving normally, a reinstall of the plugin worked fine and I got my website back in full.

I now have a problem with restoring the full features of the plugin, but I’m happy to sort that problem another day. 🙂

Hope that sheds some light and helps others who might get themselves in the same situation.

    Jack
