hm, I am interested why I can’t see pictures in media library if I upload it with FTP or beter said with WinSCP, but it is visible when I upload it with wordpress?
I upload in the same folder (wp-content/uploads/2009/11), but when I upload with WinSCP, I am owner of file at server, when I upload with wordpress, at my server is written that owner of file is NOBODY.

now I have 4 pictures at server, and wordpress recognize only 2 which I uploaded with wordpress. other 2 which I uploaded with WinSCP, I can’t see it in wordpress.

  • And how would WordPress know, it doesn’t scan the directories for files, it simply keeps track of those you upload via “WordPress”.. if you choose to upload by other means, WordPress has no way to know that you’ve just uploaded new files to that folder.

The media library does not operate by scanning directories but by keeping tracking of files added via the library.

See if this plugin will help you:

Kudos to Dion for the plugin, covers the issue precisely as described..

Well found … i’ll remember that for the next thread..
