Add content between posts?

Is there a way to modify the index page so that my latest post is at the top of page, but with an ad or some other content below it? Then the second-latest post and all the rest would display under that other content?

I’d like it to only show on the main index page, not all additional ‘previous posts’ pages.

I hope this makes sense.
