• Good evening—

I’m trying to install WordPress 3.1.3 at ccky.org/development. I’ve followed the instructions on the Five-minute install, but when I access wp-admin/install.php I just get “HTTP Error 404: File or directory not found.”

I verified with tech support at the site’s hosting company that the name of the database, database username, database passwords, and MySQL host name are correct. Also, I created the MySQL database about 90 minutes ago, but the rep said it was empty. Should it take longer to propagate?

On a subsequent call, he suggested I move /development into /html. Now when accessing wp-admin/install.php the browser just is all white, as is a visit to login.php.

Any suggestions for how I can get this WordPress installed on this site? Thanks!

  • I think I can answer this LOL. Make sure that in your root directory you have an index.php file and that there is not an index.html that will surely give you the white screen.

Thanks lmarrie. The root folder has neither file, but the html one (in which I uploaded the development folder) does have an index.html file that’s part of the current Frontpage site (it’s not blank, bur rather contains a lot of content). There is no index.php file. Should I just create a blank one using TextEdit and upload it to the site?
