After updating 4.0.7… I have a problem: Images aren’t visible and this destroys web design, especially homepage.

The conflict is with Firewall 6G. 5G does not give problems. I disabled the 6G (with 5G activated) and everything works properly. The images are visible again.

The images no visibles (with 6G activated) was the main picture of each entry. If the post have others images, these are visibles.

    Thanks.

Feel free to experiment via the “custom rules” feature by tweaking the 6G rules until you find a “best fit” for your site.
Alternatively just use the 5G rules.

    Yes. I disabled 6G

For now, I will use only 5G. Fortunately, I’ve never been hacked. All other functions (brute force, spam …) work correctly. THANKS for your job.

In future updates (wordpress 4.5 and All In One WP Security & Firewall), I’ll go testing if 6G is functional already, because web design of my page is now completely destroyed if the main images of each post are not visible with 6G.

    Regards.

    Hi alcon,

5G and 6G firewall rules are verbatim copy of .htaccess firewall rules compiled by Jeff Starr (see his posts about 5G and 6G for more technical background). Jeff itself is not associated with All in One WP Security & Firewall plugin, he just made his set of rules available to anyone, so they have been included in the plugin.

6G is meant to be updated version of 5G, but it is completely fine to use 5G instead of 6G, if you have troubles using the latter. However, it would be interesting to know, what rule is causing the problem at your website, so feel free to post a link to your website or a link to an image that has been blocked by 6G firewall.

    Cheers,
    Česlav

I’ve experimented quite a bit with Starr’s “G” firewall rules. They’re super strict. I got too many false positives and trouble shooting is difficult for an amature site administrator. You’re basically stuck with a huge list of rules written in regex, any one of which could be messing with a resource your site needs.

It’s pretty cool how Starr compressed everything down, but that makes it even harder to figure out what’s causing problems.

@mountainguy2, which one is the one that is causing you problems the 5G or 6G?

@mountainguy2 I’m not sure what you’re aiming at with your comment? Are you asking for help? If G5/G6 firewall rules are too strict for you, just turn them off. If you’d like to keep them active and only remove bits that cause issues on your website, then you have to let us know at least some URLs that are blocked by the rules.

I think it was 5, it was a while ago. Trouble shooting it was way too time consuming, problem was trying to figure out exactly which part of the rule was blocking the resource. That’s the trouble with a lot of this stuff, it does a good job of blocking but a poor job of providing feedback to administrators. All quite primitive in my opinion. In the battle against criminals, information is key and we don’t have near enough coming from plugins and firewalls. MTN

Chesio, I was just trying to contribute to the discussion, I thought it would be useful for folks to read a comment from someone who had used the “G” rules and found them problematic. MTN
