406 Not Acceptable error
-
Hi all,
Hope to get your advice. Recently, each time I post on my WordPress, I received ‘406 Not Acceptable’ error message:Not Acceptable
An appropriate representation of the requested resource /wp-admin/post.php could not be found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Looking forward to getting this fix.

Have you tried:
– deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
– switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
– re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.
Hi Esmi,
Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve tried each one suggested. The one that fix it was to re-upload all files and folders. I uninstall (including deleting all files) and re-install WordPress. And waited for few hours before checking it again. And it works. I can post again.
However, I can’t change my permalinks. Any suggestion?
I can’t change my permalinks.
Why? What happens? We need details…
As I fix my WordPress, my permalink is set to default. I want to change my permalink settings from ‘default’ to ‘month and name’ but when I clicked ‘save changes’, I get this error message:
Not Acceptable
An appropriate representation of the requested resource /wp-admin/options-permalink.php could not be found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
That sounds like a server issue. Is your root .htaccess file being updated?
How do I update .htaccess?
That’s not what I asked. I asked is your root .htaccess file being updated?
I wouldn’t know if my .htaccess file is being updated. How do I know if it’s updated?
Does WordPress tell you that you need to update your .htaccess file when you switch to custom permalinks?
I wanted to switch to custom permalinks but that’s when I got the 404 error message. And it switches back to ‘default’.
Have you contacted your hosts about this? It sounds like a server issue – not a WordPress one.
Not yet, but I’ll surely contact my host on this issue. Thanks Esmi for your time and advice. I appreciate it π
No problem. I hope you get this sorted. π
