3.1.2 upgrade

i have four instances of wp on various sites and the new upgrade has crashed them all, making it impossible to get into admin. have to upload 3.1 to recover.

here’s one error:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /var/www/vhosts/lannygoodman.com/httpdocs/wordpress/wp-includes/formatting.php on line 1934

here’s another:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /var/www/vhosts/wholewoman.com/httpdocs/library/wp-admin/includes/upgrade.php on line 1918

first time i’ve had these kinds of upgrade issues and yes, i did deactivate the plugins first.
