• Is there a way to have 2 wordpress sites with the podpress plugin and the podpress pulls from one database?

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks

  • In general it is possible to have two WP Blogs in one database. But as I understand it You have to have two different sets of database tables. Each set should have it his prefixes like wp_ and wp1_ in such a scenario. And you would have to install podpress in both blogs if you would like to publish podcast episodes in both blogs. These podpress installations would use only the database tables of their blog.

Further I would say that it is not possible for one podpress to show the podpress statistics of the other blog without changing source code.

But if you would like to have a centralized statistic then maybe one of these podcast hosting platforms can help you with that. You maybe could host your episodes there and include the episodes via podpress into your posts.
Or You maybe could use podtrac or feedburner or some other platform to get at least a combined statistic of the feed downloads.

But maybe I’m totally wrong here.

What is your idea behind this scenario?

    Thanks for the reply.

The scenario is we have a 2 sites, one is english and one is spanish.

We only have our podcast in english so we would like to have one location to add podcasts and see them on both sites.

The stats aren’t as important on the spanish site at this point.

Any ideas on how to get just the podcasts to both sites would be appreciated.

One idea I have is that maybe you could use for one blog podPress and in the other one a widget which can subscribe to and handle the XSPF play-list or the RSS feed with the podcast episodes of the first one.

Another more concrete idea is that you could use in the English blog podPress and in the Spanish blog the Audio Player Plugin which consists of the (and is the origin of the) “1 Pixel Out”-player.
In the English blog you would add the episodes with podPress and copy the URLs of the media files and in the other blog you can add the URL with a simple shortcode commend to the blog post content. The audio player plugin will show the known player and WordPress will add the media file as an enclosure to the news feeds of the spanish blog. One little down side of this possibility is that the RSS feed of the blog with the Audio Player plugin would not have these iTunes-tags. But they are maybe not necessary.

    Regards, Tim
