I guess this thread should be in the BETA forum (not to mention this warning) – and if you look around there (i.e. searching and browsing for themes, templates etc.) you will find a lot of good info.
By the by, this isn’t due to any kind of ‘breakage’ ( in reference to the ‘warning’ ) from 1.3, simply a new structure 1.3 uses. 🙂
If you plan to use 1.3 you should take a look at this thread – it was very useful for me in understanding how the theme/template stuff works in 1.3.

it would be simple enough to just download a theme and take a look at it.
Beel, where can I download a theme for 1.3?
Never mind, I found one, thank you. 🙂 Arigatou mina.
It’s been said before, but I’ll say it again. WP 1.3 is a fluid application right now, so there are no formal guides on how to do anything. Not only that, something that works today might be re-vamped into something a bit different tomorrow.
@joni….
“or she”
<ducks under the desk to hide from the wrath of The Joni>
And @nm I didn’t mean to imply that female clients are any smarter!
;-P
Well in my experience they quite often are 🙂
What this question is really about is the wisdom of *designing* in anything other than WP itself. AS soon as folks set up html pages – work in their fave software or whatever then comes the question – How do I fit WP. WP itself is written in xhtml at the GUI level plus CSS. Eiit in that at the outset IMHO you can not go wrong.
Aha, Root, you misread me.. At least if I follow you? 😛 I have designed my page for WP, just in a roundabout way.. It’s a CSS page, no tables, no frames, no junk like that. My question was more like, okay, so I have this CSS layout, where do I add this to WP? Because docs regarding how to make your own theme are lacking at the moment. 😉 ( I haven’t touched a single WP file in the main dir, but now have a working custom theme. ) Does that make more sense now?

You should be able to implement styles in exactly the same way as 1.2. Themes are an option, they’re not compulsory 🙂
Thanks Anonymous, everything seems to be working via a theme, which is actually more manageable than the previous site.
