A month of sundays?! It’s just a matter of finding 2 blocks of code and commenting them out:
From
code line 1
code line 2
...
to
/*
code line 1
code line 2
...
*/
What’s so hard about that?
Hi scribu
Hmmm? that doesn’t seem too hard…but here we go next dumb question!
Where the heck is the code?
(maybe now you may understand what great intelligence you are dealing with here! if I can’t just click on something I’m lost LOL)
Which is why something that’s just there to click on exactly like the wordpress.com one would be much easier for me
Lee
I’m not sure you can do that by commenting out two lines of code.
But, if you want to create a custom Kubrick header…and customize some other thing as well…then the video tutorials at the link below may help:
http://educhalk.org/blog/?p=137
If you don’t want to get into customizing that much, then you may want to choose another theme that allows you to upload a custom header like you described in your original post. You can find them here:
http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/search.php?q=custom-header
Hi figaro
Now that second option looks exactly what I’m talking about the first one has support for custom image header
so that’s good
but no instructions where to extract it to?
I’m going to work on trying to figure that out because that looks like my best bet even though I’m not keen on the green colour its a step in the right direction
thank you
Lee
the first one = the first option I see when I go to the link that you gave for custom headers
but no instructions where to extract it to?
See if the first video in the following post helps:
http://educhalk.org/blog/?p=91
Okay so I’m making a little progress
I’ve downloaded 2 themes that look like they have support for custom images built in
extracted them into the folder wp-content/plugins which is in my local C drive. However when I click on appearance > themes in my control panel they don’t show up as an option? Do I need to tell wordpress where to look and if so how do I do that?
Your patience is appreciated
Lee
You don’t put themes in the plugins folder…you put them in the themes folder…watch the video I linked to above.
Ah yes that does
So, I have to get that unzipped file unzipped and into my hosted blog site via Ftp
ka-ching penny dropped LOL
Lee
I may have more questions but, it looks like I may get it duh!
Darn
I’ve got the hang of downloading the themes and ftp’ing ’em across
Out of all the thousands only one allows custom image header
and its good but it aint really perfect (grrr!)
for comparison
wordpress.com blog (exactly how I like it) [click to view]
new theme on hosted site close but no cigar [click to view]
Notice how the photo just will not completely cover whats underneath and how the font even though I’ve messed around making it as white as possible is too small to see
Looks like I need to learn how to alter the basic page header myself sheesh!
Lee
further thoughts…
That tutorial you linked to is actually (and surprisingly may I add) easy to understand I’m going to edit the kubrick header following the tutorials advice in photoshop tomorrow (its 2-15 AM I’m off to bed).
Thank you very much for your help figaro
Sorry to waffle on
Lee
@seasidelee: No problem…good luck.

Thank you again
Lee
Very cool…I think the new super doopa one looks better. Glad you got it fixed.
Great, I’m glad you prefer it π
That tutorial was absolutely amazing BTW…and it has actually helped me get my head around and not be in so much fear of ftp!
Next stage now is to figure out how to make my Β£millions and that may not be quite as easy ;o)
Thanks again
Lee
