Elementor template

Gone into ‘My Library’ to create template with Elementor. Named the page and selected ‘Elementor canvas’ then ‘publish’. Went ‘edit with Elementor’ then when selected three column section, it would not open. Got the (hover) hand sign, but so further action. All works OK with normal pages but not in template mode?
Appreciate any help?
