• I have a self-hosted blog. But it seems I would be better off using the WordPress.com blog so i can get in their search. Is this true? Or what is the value of having a self-hosted blog?

    Thanks.

  • hi – If you don’t know why you have a self-hosted blog and think that wordpress.com will fill your needs, then for you self-hosting is probably not worth it.

Self-hosting allows one to do things one can’t do on wordpress.com. But if you don’t know what those things are, you probably don’t need them. self-hosting requires knowing a lot more technical stuff than using wordpress.com does.

self hosting can be really helpful when you are utilising wordpress for more than just a blog. such as a website or something where you need to edit extra files such as the htaccess

you probably could do with just the wordpress.com ones if all you need is a basic blog.
