• Hi,

I have a domain name and space but the hosting company will not give me a SQL database so I cannot upload wordpress.org and install it on my site.

Is there a way of using or getting a free sql database from somewhere and somehow transferring it over to my site so that I can install wordpress?

Sorry if this sounds a little jumbled, I am not sure that I am asking really.

    Thanks

  • There are some free sql database hosting websites, you would upload the wordpress files to your webspace as normal and when installing just enter the free external sql details.

Im not sure how reliable, fast or secure these databases are but i have read of people using them for their live websites and forums etc, if you do use free database hosting i recommend backing up your site often.

Just google free sql hosting to find websites that offer it.

    Hope this helps

    Nick

If you host won’t give you a MySQL databse (ask for MySQL, NOT SQL – there is a difference), then you sould consider finding a new host. Look for someone with Linux Hosting – just about every Linux host out there gives you MySQL databases. You can start with either http://www.fivebuckhost.com (good support) or http://www.hostgator.com – both hosts I use and have never had any kind of problems with.

Yep whenever i mentioned sql above i meant mysql, like grandslambert said if your host wont give you a database then finding a new host is the best option. I would only use a free external mysql database if i was stuck with my current host.
