Page Template issues

I am replacing the whole Hestia front page with my design from Elementor. I am using the default page template, but suddenly the background color turned black and I cannot find any setting that will change it, in the customizer panel or otherwise. When I change to any template aside from the default one, the background color returns to whatever color I select for the page (from Hestia or Elementor). However, the Navbar disappears with any page template aside from the default one. Can you help me either change the background color of the default template or turn the navbar on using another template?
