I want to create a new theme for my site. However I don’t want to load the theme on my live site while I am still tweaking it. Do I need to create a new database and install WordPress again on my server to work on this new theme so I can keep it separate from the live site?

    Thanks

  • you can easily do that by installing in a test folder
you can create another db or use the same one

Or run WAMP/Uniform Server locally and install WP there. You’ll be able to edit the files alot quicker (same way you modify any other file on your PC)… FTP access and the WP editor are not going to be quite as quick as accessing a local file..

That is certainly a valid point but we have a lot of install questions not really related to wordpress but to their wamp set up

I always recommend xampp lite as I’ve never had it not work on a wordpress install for anyone I’ve done it for
anyone interested – these instructions are great

I always use Uniform server because it’s always worked with everything i chuck it. Whatever works though i guess…

Small edit to the hosts file required on Vista, else it works flawlessly.
