how many pages are you talking about, in how many different categories
Is there a way to add category tags to old HMTML pages, so they will show up in WP categories? Say I have a category called “Tech Talk,” and want Tech Talk articles from 2006 to appear in a WP 2006 archive of articles. Is there a way I could use Dreamweaver to globally add a tag that would accomplish this?
no, unless this, alan’s plugin, http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/import-legacy-media/ .. somehow does that.
it doesn’t. but… 🙂
i was thinking about a way to do this myself. i did exactly this job the manual way a couple of years ago with ~60 static HTML pages when I switched to WP, and it was a pain.
i was thinking about some sort of 2 step process – 1st grepping the pages to abstract the content, then importing that to posts/pages. i guess i should take a proper look at the ‘multiple edit’ options you get these days in 2.7.
Thank you, everyone. I’ll look into the suggestions. To answer Alanft, there are thousands of pages, in 15 or 16 categories. We publish weekly and have been since May, 2002, so we have a lot of articles! Most of them have photos too.
A related question would be, “How best to include searching of the legacy content, if I can’t actually bring the old stuff into the WordPress format?” Now, we use Google site search.
