    Hi,

I have two (actually many instances of two) pages linked with polylang as french and german versions. Those pages have a custom field I must set to different values (it selects a menu that will be displayed on the page, so it has to point to two menus, one in french, the other in german… but I do not think this is relevant to the issue)

Unfortunately this field seems to be synchronized by Polylang beteween the two versions : as soon as I unlink the pages I can set different values for that field, but when linked a change in one page is reflected on the other.

At some point I activated the synchronization options of Polylang to test them, so they should not have any influence anymore. However to be sure something wasn’t improperly disactivated I uninstalled Polylang and suppressed all its data through the corresponding option in the Polylang config. Then I reinstalled it, but the issue was still present.

Has anyone an idea what is happening and how to fix it?
    Thanks
    Jean

    Hi,

If this is a custom field created and used by a 3rd party theme or plugin, it is possible that the author decided to synchronize it. This is generally done in the file wpml-config.xml. You can override what’s done in a wpml-config.xml file by creating your own in your child theme (set the custom field to ‘ignore’). See: https://polylang.pro/doc/the-wpml-config-xml-file/

That was it, thanks a billion!

I still do not understand why the theme’s author would do such a thing (except if there is a way I am not aware of to link menus together so the translation happens automatically), I’ll definitely ask him…

Thanks again, have a lovely day!
