We use a theme with a page password option.

When we use it anyone on a PC can get into a page but no one on a Mac can. They are either greeted with a 403 or Forbidden error. Web host says it’s not hosting. Theme developer says it’s not the theme.

Is there anything that could cause this issue in AIOWPS?

I tried deactivating AIOWPS and replacing the .htaccess with a clean copy but it blew up the site removing all CSS and I couldn’t login. I got the site working again. Wondering if necessary how I could completely remove AIOWPS if we can’t get this password login fixed.

    Thanks.

Hi, just one question. Have you tested one of WordPress default themes like Twenty Sixteen or Seventeen? If you carry out this test, this will reveal to you if it is your theme or not.

Let me know how you go.

It’s not the theme. Tried 2017. Same problem.

Hosting company says it’s the .htaccess and the whitelisting for the WP login. They removed those rules and I removed whitelisting for the WP login but it still happens.

What’s weird is this is on an interior site page, not the WP login. When it fails though the URL changes to wp-login.php?action=postpass.

Hi, if you have the Whitelisting feature enabled; how many different IP addresses are login into your site?

I disabled whitelisting. I only had one IP in there, but I removed it and cut feature off.

Before that I had one IP signing into the WP admin but several signing into password protected public website pages.

Discovered why it isn’t working for our Mac. Our IP from Comcast that was assigned to us is blacklisted on two servers. Comcast is unwilling or unable to give us a new IP which infuriates us since we didn’t cause the issue.

Our host was willing to write a rule to ignore the false positive.

Not sure if AIOWPS also looks at those lists or why the host’s own Macs originally could not see the page. This explains why they got a 403 and we got a different security message though.

Hi, what happens now if you carry out a test with this plugin and Whitelisting turned off? Do you still receive the same 406 error message on Mac systems?

    Hi @sdagency,

Our host was willing to write a rule to ignore the false positive.

Not sure if AIOWPS also looks at those lists

If your host provider has their own IP blacklist then the aiowps would not have caused the blocking because it doesn’t have access to such external black lists.
You should go ahead and ask your host support to add an exception for that address or to remove it from their list since they now know the IP address belongs to you (their customer).
