Hello! This is the first time I’m hearing about troubles that a user can’t seem to resolve yet on their end. They lost their password and this is what she says followed by what I tried to do using a user switching plugin:

    Hi!
I have forgotten my password, but when I try to reset it, it keeps saying “invalid key.”
I’m not sure how to proceed.?? Any help with this would be much appreciated!

    Thank you,
    Leah Brown

    Leah,

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble resetting your password. I’ve been able to go into the back end and generate a temporary password: kh7Uia!jU#nxhiCtMKh5h$yy

I know it’s pretty crazy looking. But, try it and then try resetting it again. I know some people have caching issues occasionally. So, before and after you try resetting your password, just hit refresh and clear your browser’s caching or browsing history. I hope that works! I’d love to know if it does work, as I’ve not heard this issue before.

Let me know if you can get back in or not. If I need to, I’ll contact my courseware builder.

    Sincerely,

    Gloria Brooks

Okay, now I’m having troubles. I will have to contact support if you can’t get back in. I didn’t save the first password, so, I created another one and tested it, and I can’t seem to get in. My apologies for this inconvenience.

But, see if perhaps you can get back in with this second generated password: MRxy!c@WxhpKIruT7@4mAimn

Please let me know again, if you have success or not. I have live classes this morning, so, I won’t be able to take care of this until later on today. But, hopefully with my refresh and clearing your browsing history you can reset the password on your end.

What can I do to help her?

  • @naturegloat1973,

Please edit your post to remove the passwords… Please please do that! This is NOT A PRIVATE FORM and that password is now up on the internet and being indexed by google!

    As for the inciting issue:

Password reset links are *TEMPORARY* and the “invalid” key will display if a reset email has sat too long in the inbox.

If that happens, resetting again will generete a new email with a new key and that can be used to reset the password.

A bit of confusion here: if a user resets multiple times (perhaps because they’re impatient) the *first* email’s key will be invalidated.

They will, of course, see that email first and then it’ll be invalid. Only the last key will ever work.

It’s possible that you may have a sluggish email sender on your server. Many shared webhosts have mediocre email send support. This could be causing more issues here for you. Say they reset the password and wait 2 minutes and figure it’s not coming and then reset again and then the first email shows up (but there’s already a second en route).

You can check our email faqs for a solution to this possible issue: https://lifterlms.com/docs/lifterlms-email-faqs/

    Hope that helps,
