• I am fine with all my “posts” to have automatically generated urls, and that’s what’s happening now. Unfortunately my pages are also automatically generating, when I would rather they say something along the lines of http://jamesgoux.com/about. When I had a wordpress.com blog this was easy to change on the edit page screen, it was just below where you change the title, but with my new self-hosted wordpress.org website, it doesn’t seem to be changeable at all. Does anyone have a solution to this?

  • See: http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks

Pretty permalinks must be enabled for you to use page names (like about) in your URLs.

Okay, well I was able to make it so the pages have “pretty” permalinks, unfortunately I don’t like that the blog posts also have urls that are formatted solely on their titles. Is there a way to differentiate how permalinks are handled between pages and posts?

Not that I know of, but the old URL format (default or “ugly” permalinks) will still function, but not display by default.
