Or is there an altertiv links widget I could use ?

    Anyone – please 🙂

    Thanks

That’s because file:// is on your computer’s hard drive. http:// is on the public-accessible internet. Why would you want to link to a file on your hard drive?

And second thing… if you do so.. then how can someone access your local documents??? The file must be some where on the web.. i.e. with http://

That’s why it doesn’t work. People *can’t* access your local documents – not unless you give them access to your local hard drive to do so (which would be a REALLY BAD idea.) It’s not on the web until you put it there by uploading the file to a server.

(Sorry Ryan, I realized that it looked like I was saying that *to* you, just wanted to clarify I’m just backing you up LOL)

    Hi

It’s because we need a list on our intranet with links to our guidelinesand other things on the server.

I can do it in normal HTML
    Guide

Where F: is a network drive that everyone in the company has access to.

Yes, but your intranet is on a server too (just a closed one) – you should be able to link via http in that way.

how sould i write the link then ? the drive F: is not on the http: net ?

    Ah, by using
    \\Tmsrv\Data\

No – thats not possible 🙁

Well, that depends on your server setup. For example, I can access *my* local server just by typing “http://localhost” into my browser window bar. I can link to any file in my localhost system just like I would a website link – instead of a domain name, I use the local name (either that or the local IP address). But it depends on your setup. I’d say you’d have to ask whoever administers the server.

    Hi doodlebee

I appreciate your help. It seems that the easiest way is to use pages, and have the link in here.

Not what I wanted, but it works.

    Thanks

    @doodlebee

    Thanks for backing me!!!!!

Hey jorgensen, you ever figure this out? I’m trying to do the same think…add a link to a local file folder on an intranet. This seems like something wordpress has to have dealt with given all the people now using blogs on fully fire-walled internal sites where security isn’t an issue and content isn’t on the web but instead on an internal server…

hey…for anyone who has this question, see the following post:
