I just crashed 2 of my blogs in upgrading to 2.7. I upgraded the other one a couple weeks ago and everything went fine. So I’m not sure where I messed up.

I downloaded my whole blog folder. I backed up my database. I turned off my plug-ins. (Well on one I think I forgot, but the other one I did.) I deleted my admin and includes files. I uploaded all the new files except the content folder. I added the new lines to my config file (with the secret key stuff) and uploaded it.

It said it needed to update database and said it did. But now my blog that I know I turned the plug-ins off says:
Warning: require(/[blog folder path]/wp-includes/compat.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /[blog folder path]/wp-settings.php on line 238

Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘[blog folder path]/wp-includes/compat.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /[blog folder path]/wp-settings.php on line 238

On my other blog, where I think I forgot to turn off plug-ins first, I went in and turned them off, right after the update database – but went I went to view it, it only show my empty template (header and sidebar), no posts (and no extras since the plug-ins are turned off.) I re-uploaded my old blog folder, overwriting the new one, to see if I could get the old to work, nope. Same thing.

Both of the admin areas seemed to be fine, showed the new wp and everything seemed to check out ok there, just in the viewing of the blog is it messed up. Except that the one that showed the template, when I went to do something, it said I had to log in, and it said my admin password was wrong. I reset it, so I can get into the wp-admin again, but don’t know how to fix my blogs.

    PLEASE HELP SOON!
What do I need to do next?
    Thanks!

  • On the blog with the error I’d first consider deleting the WordPress files, then reupload, per Steps 7 and 8 in Upgrading_WordPress_Extended.

On the other blog, if clearing your browser cache and cookies doesn’t resolve the problem, the see what happens when you change to the WordPress Default theme.

Thank you so much Michael for your quick reply! It helps a crying girl 🙂

I was just coming in to edit this, to note that I went back and re-uploaded for the “error” blog, and that did work. It appears to be fine now.

I also re-uploaded 2.7 for the other blog.

Also I just now went and tried the default and that works. Does that mean the problem is with using that template with 2.7? I planned on switching templates anyhow.

Not all themes and plugins are ready for 2.7:

    New theme good!

    Marking this resolved.
