• Hi,

    I am getting this error when trying to update from Version 2.91 to Version 2.92.

    Until today I have had no issues updating this plugin.

    Other plugins are updating ok.

    =======================================================================================
    An error occurred while updating WP-PageNavi: The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions. scb/.htaccess
    =======================================================================================

    The error message mentions permissions but none have been changed and it’s a generic message.

    Any help in finding the issue would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Madharleyman.

    CHMOD the file to 644?

    Hi Lester,

    I tried the update again from within WordPress and it errored and said update failed.

    Changing permissions to 0644 does not fix it.

    I am going to restore the site as currently it is down and since I don’t know what is broken I can’t fix.

    < HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error
    < Date: Thu, 14 Sep 2017 13:26:00 GMT

    Once it’s restored I will try the permission change to the scb folder again and see if I can get the update to run.

    Thanks,

    Madharleyman.

    Hi Lester,

    By changing the permissions on the scb folder to 0755 the 500 errors go away and the site works.

    However I still can’t update the plugin and the error below is back.

    Update Failed: The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions.

    Thanks,

    Madharleyman.

    That is weird, I have not encountered this error before. But normally 644 will solve it and 755 for folders.

    Sorry man I wish I can offer more input.

    So I might have missed the real reason to use 0644.

    Was I supposed to 0644 the .htaccess file?

    Thanks,

    Yeap, 644 for files and 755 for folders is the standard permissions.
