Site dissapeared

Hello, I am wondering if anyone can help me at all.

I built a wordpress site for a client and a few months ago it completely disappeared overnight. The domain has a redirect on it so can’t be investigated for reference but we found out by discovering an error on the homepage before an attempt to login to the dashboard was unsuccessful. Having a dig around in the control panel revealed that the wordpress database is actually still intact as we can see several examples of the architecture such as posts and text information but no idea whatsoever what has happened and/or how to get it back up. Does this sound familiar at all? I am at a complete loss as to what may have happened.

Hello, the website you mention opens fine for me. Was this resolved or you just reverted to a backup ? Just in case there’s something I’m missing here since everything looks fine on my side.

Hi Xenos, as I mentioned there is a redirect in place so it’s pointing to another host and site version currently.

The client uses two domains:
http://www.sophies.com.au (the problem in question)
http://www.sofies.com.au (where the redirect is pointing to)

I’m confused. If the domain is redirecting to another site, what do you mean that the site disappeared? It sounds like it just doesn’t have a domain pointing to it anymore.

Hi Jacob, there is a redirect on the domain name. It was put in place after the site disappeared.

Just wondering if anyone knows any known issues as to how an entire WP site can disappear including the ability to login to the WP dashboard.

Depends what you mean by disappeared. It’s hard to diagnose without even front-end access to the site. Were there errors of any kind?

Hi Jacob, yes exactly it doesn’t make any sense at all.

One day my client notified me the site was down. I tried to login to wordpress and couldn’t. Error message at http://www.sophies.com.au/wp-admin

Apart from that I have absolutely no idea. With limited technical skills I have run out of options as to even troubleshooting the problem.

Can you access the client’s server via FTP?

Yes, make sure you see the basic WordPress structure (folders & files) in the appropriate sub-directory as well as the WordPress database file and theme located in the /wp-content/themes/ folder.
