• I changed:

    define(’DB_CHARSET’, ‘utf8′);
    define(’DB_COLLATE’, ”);

    to

    //define(’DB_CHARSET’, ‘utf8′);
    //define(’DB_COLLATE’, ”);

    as advised by this individual http://blog.darrellnece.com/archives/185 and guess what? My web site is now screwed up. It’s white page that shows up on my page and I cannot login to my web site.

    My WP-CONFIG.php looks like this (pass edited):

    <?php
    // ** MySQL settings ** //
    define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘EDITED’); // The name of the database
    define(‘DB_USER’, ‘EDITED’); // Your MySQL username
    define(‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘tUV{[FruigSM’); // …and password
    define(‘DB_HOST’, ‘localhost’); // 99% chance you won’t need to change this value

    // Change each KEY to a different unique phrase. You won’t have to remember the phrases later,
    // so make them long and complicated. You can visit http://api.wordpress.org/secret-key/1.1/
    // to get keys generated for you, or just make something up. Each key should have a different phrase.
    define(‘AUTH_KEY’, ‘ui+[]L4Fn)3u|mv2dUW.q;7]q1z$u0ZCxrMm71$nc-xT`SbZ-kBqAO*_3/aCQCk,’);
    define(‘SECURE_AUTH_KEY’, ‘!Hu%1DNw@]UE:J+N]A<|1.,$HM3/De6ss-7~,mKX/kumy||Ly|FdJF3t0agxjr’);
    define(‘LOGGED_IN_KEY’, ‘>-%3,zaw{sYxp;f$ZH4&it b`Z+uDBii<).H!%z-8X3w#SVF|-kYJz5il-O|(M$H’);

    // You can have multiple installations in one database if you give each a unique prefix
    $table_prefix = ‘wp_’; // Only numbers, letters, and underscores please!

    // Change this to localize WordPress. A corresponding MO file for the
    // chosen language must be installed to wp-content/languages.
    // For example, install de.mo to wp-content/languages and set WPLANG to ‘de’
    // to enable German language support.
    define (‘WPLANG’, ”);

    /* That’s all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */

    if ( !defined(‘ABSPATH’) )
    define(‘ABSPATH’, dirname(__FILE__) . ‘/’);
    require_once(ABSPATH . ‘wp-settings.php’);
    ?>

    please help

    Why would you want to do something different from the WP instructions? My advice is: get the unchanged copy of wp-config-sample.php and follow the instructions of WP not of third parties.

    put this :

    define(’DB_CHARSET’, ‘utf8′);
    define(’DB_COLLATE’, ”);

    back, or do what gangleri told you, get a new config file, copy EXACTLY the same configurations from the old one, and put it back.
    .. and try not to touch the DB while at it.
