Multisite Questions?

I need to make a multisite within my WordPress dashboard so I can make other sites. I did watch some YouTube videos on this area and did some research. Need to make sure before I move ahead.

1. I realize I have to modify my .htaccess & wp-config.php files. I have my main site done and ready to be put online. When I do that, I will not mess up my current site or lose it?

2. When I put my site online, it does not matter how my Permalinks are now before my site goes online?

3. My site will look, http://www.mydomain.com ?
