CSS and XHTML

where can I learn more about CSS and XHTML, and about creating a custom theme.

You can learn about them at google. Seriously, google CSS and start from there 🙂
As for themes, start at Theme Development, but I’d suggest getting a basic understanding of HTML first.
ok. I’m looking through Theme Development right now and I feel like I’m reading another language.. I think I have a vague Idea of html but will start from there.. Thanks
Heh! It always starts that way, marito. Don’t worry. 🙂
The other way to start is find a theme that looks kinda like you want and start playing. Don’t be afraid to screw everything up (but do keep backups).
LoL… I’ve screwed everything up so many times… I think I’m over that part… I have a theme in my head. I just need to get it out! I found a site that takes you step by step through html and css and other things..
seems simple enough..
Thanks Ipstenu
what program can i use to create my theme? i know to use notepad to edit and create..
Piece of paper? No, really, my best themes were doodled on the train home from work. Notepad is fine. You may want to look into TextPad, or some other app with context highlighting. It’s not required, but I find it helps.
great.. well i’m off to see what i can do.
I posted a link yesterday to a few excellent resources for themes, and even a theme generator.
whats the thread name?
is it possible to have a main page without it being a blog?
I guess I would like to re format my main page. I’m Playing around with wordpress on my local server so i don’t mes up anything on my blog.
I’m looking to make my main page a welcome page and then have the different blogs for each categories on different pages.
You can make a page static for use as a main page if you like.
ok.. by the way thanks for all the help Saurus. I’m on almost to the point where i can start designing my theme..
