• Hello,

I am sure this has been asked before but I have not found an answer yet.

I want to move all of my blogger posts to wordpress which I can do. All my blogger posts have been indexed by google with the domain name which I intend to use for the word press blog.

Can I assume that the WordPress posts will use the exact same URLs as the Blogger posts did? or will links from other sites now be broken because blogger posts end in .html and wordpress .htm or something silly like that? I want to preserve the exact URLs so that posts do not get re-indexed. How is this done please?

    Many Thanks

    Yes and no.

No, the links and urls won’t be the same by default.

Yes, you could tweak pretty permalinks to do that. Check http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks before you get started. You can even use permalinks to make your posts end in .html

What format are your URLs right now?

They are in .html at the moment in blogger. I am still weighing up a switch to Word Press, it does look more professional and has some cool plugins.

Thanks, I will take a look at the link and do some homework.

By format I mean the whole thing, not just the end 🙂

    Like mine are:
    /year/month/day/title-of-post

You can configure your permalinks to be just about anything, but it’s best if you understand the format of your links NOW before you change ’em all up 🙂
