do_shortcode returning 500 error

    While the exact same shortcode works when used inside of the editor – when i use do_shortcode:

    <?php echo do_shortcode('[easy-instagram user_id='xxxxxxx'  limit=8 template=horizontal thumb_click="thickbox" caption_char_limit=0 caption_hashtag=false]'); ?>

    it shuts the page down with a 500 error. Has anyone else experienced this?
