• I GIVE UP!
    My Advice…. Dump this plugin!
    It’s nothing but a headache for those who aren’t well versed in PHP! Cant seem to find any decent write up on it either. Although it’s a feature I would love to have, (seen it in action, so I know it does work for some) it’s a headache I can do without. Been trying for a few days now to get it to work, and all it does is make a mess of things! The damm thing just don’t work. All the other plugins I’ve installed worked fine with no problems, so I don’t know why this one is such a pain. Perhaps I’ll check it out again in a later release…. maybe someone can do a decent write up on it by then!

    Yes, I know bout that install, and it does work without flaw. (Thanks for the mention) But I’m not interested in having all the styles and other plug-ins enabled, otherwise I would just use it! For one, it creates the same problems when you try to disable one of the plug-ins,of which you have no knowledge of in the first place. This kind of install (which may be good for some people), kind of defeats the purpose as you won’t learn a thing bout the plug-ins or how they work.
    As for my post, I do NOT consider it to be either rude or insensitive. I was merely stating a fact, as if you happen to look around this forum, I am NOT the only one who is experiencing problems with this plug-in! Something I’m sure could be easily fixed simply by providing more detailed instructions, than those that have been provided with the plug-in. Now, what’s so hard bout that? Nuf Said?

    You should have been a shrink…. Not that I think you’d be any good at it! Sorry!
    Ever hear of ‘Freedom of Speech’?
    Talk in riddles all you like…. point remains, the instructions on how to install the plug-in are pretty lame!
    I agree, ‘Alex’ did do a fine job on some of his other instruction sheets in reference as where to put eveything! Guess he must have been tired when he did this one! Get over it…..

    Alex’s plugins work well, and like Beel, I am grateful that he took the time to create them.
    You posted a question about where to put all the code, and I answered. You then responded in that thread with “Well helps a bit I guess….” and a sentence about not getting it to work because of a blank screen.
    Just over 30 minutes later, you posted the first post above.
    You didn’t request any further help, you didn’t take the time to say what you had or had not done to try to get it to work.
    Had you done so, help would have come your way. There are a huge number of people who successfully use this plugin, and I have no doubt that more than one of them would have the solution you want.

    Ok people chill! I for one _would_ like to use it and dissing the author is not a good start. I am grateful to alex and would _really_ like for this plugin to work.
    Now that said, I have followed the instructions to the letter on a 1.2 install but I only get a blank screen after I put step 3 in place
    Step 3.
    Add this line within the <head> tags of your index.php and wp-comments-popup.php pages.
    <?php require(bloginfo(‘url;’).’/wp-content/plugins/wp-last-visit.php?type=js’); ?>
    I place it in the header section of index.php and the screen stops drawing properly. I am sure it is a simple thing to fix and I am willing to try and debug it myself. I just need some pointers. Once I figure out how to make it work I’ll post back with more detail instructions. So can anyone help me figure out the problem ? I think it is the javascript portions are screwing up the page – how do i figure out which parts ?
    I might be able to make it simple enough for the brain at the start of this thread to be able to make it work.

    woohoo, one step forward. The script from podz made the screen draw properly again. I’ll follow the rest of the instructions and report back.

    That may help with placement if you need it.

    works like a dream! after the step 3 problem everything else works as instructed in the README.
    *******
    So to make the wp-last-visited plugin work in wordpress 1.2 Replace step 3 in the readme with the following
    —>
    STEP 3
    Add this line within the <head> tags of your index.php and wp-comments-popup.php pages.
    <script type=”text/javascript” src=”<?php bloginfo(‘url’); ?>/wp-content/plugins/wp-last-visit.php?type=js”>
    </script>
    —>
    and its party time. Thanks to all who helped.

    Excellent !
    And thank you for posting back – that’ll help future users know this works πŸ™‚
