    In the past, Ditty News Ticker has been relatively stable with few updates, so update configuration management (CM) for our website hasn’t been an issue. The recent flurry of updates/fixes to Ditty New Ticker has challenged our CM process for our website. Would it be possible for you to change the naming convention of your plugin zip files so that the file name includes the version?

    For example, instead of naming the plugin zip file “ditty-news-ticker.zip,” could you name the zip file “ditty-news-ticker.2.1.9.zip?”

    Thank you and thank you for your great plugin!

    I apologize for the amount of recent updates lately. I made a few bigger changes/updates last week and due to the number of other extensions running off the base plugin I missed a few details that affected some of the other plugins. So, I have had to make additional updates to resolve some bugs. Hopefully it’s all set now… If there are any minor issues, I normally don’t push out updates for each little thing (I wait until they are all done), but when there are fatal errors I try to get that single issue resolved right away.

    There isn’t any way to change the naming convention of the zip files. It needs to stay the same for the auto-updating to work (and to be hosting through the WP repository).

    You can always download previous versions here https://wordpress.org/plugins/ditty-news-ticker/advanced/. I would suggest keeping up on updates, though.

    @metaphorcreations,

    Thanks for the quick reply! No apology necessary – it happens. I appreciate your work and your plugin. I was only proposing a naming convention similar to that used by other plugins and WordPress (e.g. wordpress-4.8.zip). We’re paranoid about security, so we don’t allow updates (auto or manual) through the Dashboard, requiring all updates to be applied manually after downloading the associated zip file.

    Thanks for the tip about retrieving old update packages and thanks again for a great plugin.

    Ok, no problem. It’s good to be paranoid about security. I’ve had to deal with malware and hacking on some client sites and it is not fun!
