Understanding the ‘shop’. Confused :)

    Hello guys,

    I’m currently building an ecommerce site and have installed Woocommerce.

    I’m a bit confused about the ‘shop’ page, and the documentation is a bit vague.

    Prior to installing WC I’d set up my pages for my products. For example: Clicking on the link ‘hats’ in the menu takes you to a page where all my hats are listed. You can then click on the hat you like which takes you to the individual product page.

    Now, after installing WC I have a ‘shop’ page which shows all my products, and also has ‘this is where you add products to your store’ or something similar in the header. It is also styled slightly different to my other pages (Uncode Theme), with no apparent method to edit it.

    What am I supposed to do with this ‘shop’ page? Ignore it? Hide it? Integrate it somehow? Obviously I don’t want my customers to see that ‘this is where you add products to your store’ message for example.

    Very confused over this!

    The shop page is just a placeholder; it’s replaced with the ‘product archive’ which shows all products you’ve added.

    I don’t think we have any content in core output that says “this is where you add products to your store”…

    So, do I just ignore the shop page then and carry on building my site as if it weren’t there?

    Perhaps that ‘add products to your store’ message is related to the theme (Uncode)

    Products should appear once added no?

    Yeah, I’ve already added lots of products. I guess what I’m asking is: am I safe to ignore the shop page? And not have any links to it on my site? I’m guessing it needs to exist for WC to work properly, but as I can’t style it like the rest of my site I’d rather not use it if possible. I’m just confused about how WC organises products and categories, and how that relates to my own navigation structure.

    I see what you’re asking now. You can ignore the shop page, yes. Though it would be better to utilize it. For example, when the cart is empty – the cart page has a button to visit the shop page.

    The shop page can be styled/customized, but that is up to the theme.
