I use UpdraftPlus on all my websites with no issues. I have just inherited a website transferred from another hosting company and installed Updraft Plus to make a backup. Now when I view the website online, it is not showing the home page but an editing version of the home page. De-activating the plugin does not make a difference.

Can anyone suggest why this might be happening? The first time it happened I had to ask my host to restore the site and now it has happened again.
I have again asked the host to try and fix it but I was wondering if anyone has come across a situation like this before.

    Thanks

  • Was the site running before you installed Updraft Plus ?

I never had such a problem with Updraft Plus. Most time probs with WordPress were caused by other plugins.

You could try to install WP and your theme and childtheme all new. In nearly 90% of all problems that helps

Yes it was. I had just had it restored. I’ve never had an issue with UpdraftPlus before either. I suspect it is to do with the vast array of plugins on this site I have inherited. Some of them I have never even heard of. Just hoping my host can help me out with this.
    Thanks for reply.

You surely use FTP. So make a backup via FTP on your PC. Then delete all plugins, reinstall wordpress new, the theme and the childtheme. Restore the .htaccess, only using the urgently needed code that makes WordPress run.

Normally sql is not involved in those problems. So you shouldn’t need your hoster. And the plugins you should delete in any case. They will cause furher on problems.
    Best regards an good luck

I would like to scrub the lot and start again. Unfortunately my client likes the theme he has on the site, a theme that was designed and supplied by his previous hosting company. I did another site for him years ago and he wanted me to host this current site. I did point out that he may no longer have access to theme updates but apparently he likes it. It appears really complex to me and I really don’t know what all the plugins do but 23 of them were/are out of date when the site was handed over a few days ago which I thought a bit peculiar.

Apparently sql WAS a problem the first time they transferred the site from the link provided by the previous company – which incidentally was flagged as containing a trojan by Avast – at least they told me that the MySQL extension was missing. Also on the first time round I installed Wordfence and it reported 2 malicious files found!

If it wasn’t for the fact that the client is a client of long standing, I wouldn’t have agreed to host the site. I might move it to a different server so my other sites are not compromised.

    Thanks for reply!

Uuuups Wordfence …. Wordfence caused a bad fault on my site.

But I think it is something very special with this site, you have there. I wish, you’ll have success soon.

Yeah with such a lot of plugins that are too old …. and a trojan. That’s not funny.

But be sure, that the problem is not Updraft Plus !

    Good luck

Yes I’ve always found UpdraftPlus to be great for all my sites.

    Hi @jasnick,

    Apologies for the delay.
Are you still experiencing this issue?

Thanks DNutbourne but I managed to convince my client that a fresh start was the way to go – so problem solved! New UpdraftPlus installation working well.
