    Hello,

I’m noticing that when I upload new media that my template values are being filled in the description fields, but unless I go to the item/bulk item and actually click the ‘Map IPTC/EXIF metadata’ button, I only get the plain text in the description field instead of the mapped data, until after I click this button. Is this supposed to be a manual task, or is my mapping not taking place for a reason? I have the Enable “IPTC/EXIF Mapping when adding new media” checked, but it doesn’t seem to be behaving correctly. Any ideas? Thanks!

Thanks for your question. The “Enable IPTC/EXIF Mapping when adding new media” option should make this process automatic.

I just did a quick test and the IPTC/EXIF mapping seems to be working fine on my system. I would like to get more information from you so I can try to reproduce your problem.

How do you “upload new media“, i.e., do you use the Media/Add New screen or the “Add Media…” button on a post/page or some other upload process?

You wrote “I only get the plain text …” Can you give me an example of the plain text and the final mapped data?

Can you post the full details of your IPTC/EXIF mapping rule?

Can you post a link to one or more of your images so I can see the IPTC/EXIF data it contains?

Thanks for your understanding and for any additional details you can provide.

    Definitely.

    1. Here is the plain text (note I have some no breaks in there) – Camera:   ISO:   Focal Length: mm   Aperture: f/   Shutter: s

It shows the plain text I have in my rule, but not the mapped data (until I press the button manually).

    2. template:Camera: [+meta:image_meta.camera+]   ISO: [+meta:image_meta.iso+]   Focal Length: [+meta:image_meta.focal_length+]mm   Aperture: f/[+meta:image_meta.aperture+]   Shutter: [+meta:image_meta.shutter_speed+] s

That is under Standard Field Mapping under description – none – select a value with EXIF selected and replace.

This link may work better for EXIF data – you can see the data when clicking on the last image.

Thank you for your updates with the additional information and the link to an example image; very helpful.

I reproduced your problem on my test system. You have found a defect in the current MLA version; thank you! During the upload process the image_meta data is in a different place and MLA was not looking for it there.

I have released a new MLA Development Version that corrects the problem. You can find more information about downloading and installing the Development Version in this earlier topic:

Fatal Error after upgrading to version 2.53

It would be great if you installed the new version and let me know how it works for you. Thanks for your report, your understanding and your interest in the plugin.

It has been a month since my last post in this topic. I hope the fix I made was helpful and you have found a solution that works for your application.

I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if I can give you any additional help. Thanks for your interest in the plugin.
