• Hey everyone, I’m having a big problem here…

I purchased an SSL certificate for the site and I installed it in cPanel. I had no idea how to actually get https, so I decided to change the URL within the site settings. So, from the WordPress dashboard, I changed my URL from http://www.lifesongfororphans.ca to https://www.lifesongfororphans.ca.

Now I can’t access my site or my WordPress dashboard. Whenever I try to visit either site, it automatically changes my URL to https and then says “this site can’t provide a secure connection. http://www.lifesongfororphans.ca uses an unsupported protocol. ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH.”

I tried going to phpMyAdmin and changing the option_value for both siteurl and home. I changed them back to http and both have saved like that. However, the same problem keeps happening when I try to access the site or my dashboard. I keep getting the same error.

Please let me know – I need to get the site back up as soon as possible. Thanks for your help.

  • It looks like the SSL certificate has not been correctly installed, or perhaps the certificate you purchased doesn’t cover the domain correctly.

If you don’t have a way to check the certificate; e.g., you only have cPanel access, you should probably contact your web host for help debugging the SSL certificate install.

When you add an SSL certificate for a site, it’s always a good idea to check the installation by browsing to the HTTPS version of the site and verifying the certificate is installed correctly before changing any settings for WordPress or altering your .htaccess to force HTTPS.
