I would like to allow site visitors to switch between list and grid view, similar to how an embedded google calendar lets them select week/month/agenda. Is that possible with this plugin?

No that is not currently possible in this version. The FullCalendar add-on provides this though: https://demo.simplecalendar.io/fullcalendar/grid-view/

There is no demo on this page showing ability to toggle between grid view and list view. Nor is there such a thing on any other demo page that I can find.
