Automatic Upgrade does NOTHING

I have tried the old plugin for the previous version of WordPress and now trying the one that comes with it. I tried it with 2 different blogs as well.

And when I do the Upgrade, all it ever says is :

Upgrade WordPress

Downloading update from http://wordpress.org/nightly-builds/wordpress-latest.zip

And then nothing happens, it doesn’t work. The upgrade of most plugins work except for Viper Video tags but that one never worked automatically.

Why doesn’t your auto upgrade work? Everyone says it works and that its cool and Id love to use it.

Ok i seen this :

Works with caveats

0 – 9
1and1 (fails running PHP 4, but works with PHP 5. Add AddType x-mapp-php5 .php to .htaccess to enable PHP 5.)

Not sure what all that means

I have 1and1.com webhosting..

Is there anyway I can set it up to work? PLEASE?

Well… you just gave yourself the answer. 🙂

solved:
Add AddType x-mapp-php5 .php to .htaccess to enable PHP 5

Have you added
AddType x-mapp-php5 .php
to your site’s .htaccess file?

Another problem I found with the upgrade is anytime I write a new post, it goes to a 500 Error Internal Server Error and does nothing. I go back to my blog and see the post has been made but it still keeps giving me that error. Whats the problem with that!

It’s another permalink .htaccess issue, basically you’re being forwarded to the wrong page…

To test: Turn permalinks off and see if the problem persists?

For upgrading to 2.71 the .htaccess fixed my problem on 1and1!

I’m wondering if it will help with the few plugins that don’t work. (Some plugins upgrade fine).

Where exactly do you add the AddType x-mapp-php5 .php in the htaccess file? I have tried several different iterations, but everytime I do i get an error when trying to access the site (as an admin or just out on the internet) saying that I don’t have permissions. Help!
