Can you check if style.css is in the folder that you have uploaded and also check if it is on your local machine? It has happened with me too and after banging my head on so many places i found out that the zip filde i downloaded from a third party website did not include style.css in the zipped folder.
One more thing
Your-Existane theme files should be in wp-content/themes/your-existane
if it is in wp-content/themes/your-existane/your-existane/ then upload it in the correct directory.

style.css is in the themes\your-existence folder. It seems strange that when style.css in the themes\your-existence it does not give me the error. But when style.css is in the themes folder it give me an error.
it seemed strange to me the I had to create the themes folder.
any more ideas on what to check?

in Design it also says it needs a template. is that a file also? if so what file? Maybe that is whats missing?

change design to default theme. does the site appear there? if so, the theme you uploaded is not good – change it.
Hummm, there is no default theme. I am new to WordPress. Other wise I may have noticed this.
Maybe my install is bad? How do I start over? delete the containing folder?
Any other ideas?

Yeah, you should have default theme in plain install of WordPress. Suggest you FTP/reupload WordPress files and folders and make visual check that all are up there in server.

I reuploaded the WP install package. Then the default theme was there. Part of my FTP upload failed last night I guess.

How Do I delete my posts? A totally random webpage is showing my posts here. Or can I edit it to remove the URL?
