Every donation that is sent to PayPal is first marked as “Pending” until your website receives an IPN signal from PayPal that the donation is confirmed. Sometimes, you get redirected to the donation confirmation page BEFORE that IPN signal reaches your website, and that’s why you might see that message.
Is that donation now marked in Give as Complete? Is it marked as complete in PayPal as well? If not, there may be some security settings which are preventing that IPN signal from reaching your server correctly.

Thanks for your reply.
The Paypal account is completing the transaction immediately, but the website is not receiving the IPN and is stuck on pending permanently. We really don’t want to have to do this manually.
Which security settings could be causing the problem?
The website is SSL secured, could that be an issue?
Actually, my mistake, a couple of transactions have now gone through and are marked as completed!!! That’s a good sign, still, which security options would I change? (other than the “PayPal IPN Verification” in Paypal standard?
Also, when I am sent to paypal, ther eis no option to buy with credit cards as a guest…do you know how to route it to the more traditional paypal page instead of one which requires membership?

Sorry, one last thing, the problems could be caused by my client not verifiying her paypal account. (which I’ve told her repeatedly to do)
So, as usual, user error is probably the cause of all these issues.

Ya, I think you’re on the right track. Get the account verified and then also have your client chat with PayPal support about enabling the credit card for guests option — that has to be done with the account, there’s nothing we can do on the Give side about that.
