    Hi
    I have
    activated the plugin for Easy WP SMTP. I’m not very technical so I apolgoise if these questions are really stupid. I’ve been Googling and this seems quite technical to me.

    Anyway, I’m trying to follow the instructions in the setup information but keep getting an error message when I test the email.

    SMTP connect() failed. https://github.com/PHPMailer/PHPMailer/wiki/Troubleshooting

    I’m thinking that the error lies in me using the wrong text in the SMTP Host box and also the port number? But I can’t be sure.

    I have my own domain name Gmail account. I’m not quite sure what to put in for the SMTP Host – whether I should include the Gmail one and therefore use 465 for the Gmail port.

    In the settings box I’ve added the following info:

    SMTP Host:smtp.gmail.com
    SMTP Port:465
    Username:me@mydomainname.com
    password:password for my domain name

    I’d be so appreciative of your help as I’d love to have this plugin working. I’ve called Go Daddy and they’ve not been very helpful. Maybe I’m asking the wrong questions.

    Thank you so much.

  • You get the “SMTP connect() failed” error when the SMTP details you entered in the settings are incorrect.

    Contact your hosting provider and tell them that the SMTP connection is failing. They should be able to configure the settings for you or give you valid SMTP configuration details that you can enter in the plugin’s settings.

    Also, make sure to try the various different “Type of Encryption” options to see which one works best for you.
