I currently have the Twenty Sixteen theme but am trying to switch to the Illdy theme. I downloaded the files into WP but when I try to preview the theme I get the following message:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STATIC in /home/content/26/6306126/html/wp-content/themes/illdy/inc/components/entry-meta/class.mt-entry-meta.php on line 50

This happened before when I actually tried to activate it & then the whole site disappeared!

Additionally I’ve downloaded the zip file to my desktop and have uploaded it to my hosting server which is GoDaddy. I don’t know what to do now. Please explain the answer in very, very simple terms assuming I know next to nothing 🙂

    Thanks,

    Stephanie

  • What version of PHP are you using?

    It’s running version 5.

I looked at the theme specs in a forum supported by its developer (colorlib) and Illdy requires the php version to be at least 5.4.24. GoDaddy only has the option of 5.4. I’m now trying to figure out how to get a more recent version if it’s available at all through them.

I have Bluehost for another site and the version it’s supporting is 5.6.29 which is the latest version.

Do you have an option to select PHP version in your cPanel? If not you’ll have to contact GoDaddy’s support.

It turns out that the versions available with GoDaddy that I have with my package won’t allow me to get the version that I need unless I pay for an upgrade. I’ve made the decision to go with a different host (Bluehost).

Thanks for all of your help! 🙂
