hello i wanted to ask about spam comments. I understood that a comment is considered as spam if it has a link which delivers you to another page, but there’s the camp for the input of site at “website” so all comments deliver you to another blog / website. So Im still asking myself why I still havent any comments and akismet considered them all as spam, is this ok?

A spam comment is an unwanted advertisement, just like a spam email, telemarketer phone call, junk mail, etc.

For example, let’s say you have a post about a new recipe. There’s a big difference between someone leaving a comment like “That looks delicious, but would it be possible to substitute the milk for soy?” along with a link to their site, verses “Check out my dating site!” along with a link to their site.

    That last one is spam.

It’s not always easy to tell though, be on the lookout for suspiciously vague comments like “Looks great!” or “Wow, you’ve helped me very much!” that link off to sites that are definitely scams. They’re vague because there’s a strong likelihood that most people will approve them, which is great for the automated bots that post most spam comments. The “quality” of the attached link is the key in that case.

Akismet is built on a learning engine powered by everyone who uses it. If a comment is incorrectly caught as spam, folks mark it as “Not Spam” and Akismet learns. If a spam comment is missed, folks mark it as “Spam” and Akismet learns.

In general, it’s fine to trust Akismet. I’d say about 99% of the comments I receive are spam, it’s just a fact of the public web these days, as they’re mostly all left by automated bots.

    hi diven
I will suggest you identify your spam comments(comments that are not in a anyway related to the post, topic or page in question) manually by yourself for now till maybe when your comments become too much for you to handle.
    thanks

thank you guys for your support…so all my comments are spam as most of them are in english ( my blog is in italian) and a few are in italian which lead to bad websites (buy youtube views etc.)

Yeah, that sounds like spam. I wish spam bots weren’t a thing, but it’s just something we all have to live with these days. You’ll get some real commenters eventually, hang in there.

hey i have 2 unclear situations and if you could help me understand if its spam or not i’d be really glad

    1. comment with link to gmail so links to an email and the comment is in english
    2. comment with link to fb account and comment is in english

Well the thing that the comment is in english is strange as my blog is in italian and i read that a comment in another language is spam…please help me to understand….got 200+ comments and all marked as spam by akismet

Does the content have anything to do with the context of your post, or does it seem like an advertisement or scam?

If it’s an advertisement or a scam, it’s definitely spam.

If it’s incredibly contextually vague and can apply to really anything, it’s probably spam.

the comment seems ok….they say that the blog has useful information and the name of the user who posted the comment has a link to their email yahooo and gmail…so i should accept these comments?

I read but im not sure, are comments in another language, different from blog’s language, considered as spam? will they ruin the seo of my blog?

    (@macmanx)

    I’d say that’s spam:

    1. It’s posted in a language other than what your blog is written in.

    2. The comment is incredibly vague, it could apply to any post on any site.

    3. It links to something really weird.

In other words, it really sounds like it was left by bot, not a person who actually read your post, and therefore I’d call it spam.
