error adding ticket to cart

There is an intermittent error generated when adding a ticket to the cart with some browsers (IE, Edge, Safari or Firefox on Mac). The message “An error has occurred” appears in red directly above the Ticket Selection UI.

I found a workaround – add a product (workshop) to the cart, remove it and then buy the ticket – a step by step is here: http://frolic.torontoknittersguild.ca/faqs/#TicketError

However, this is rather awkward and we are in he process of selling tickets to an upcoming event.

Incidentally, the site has another issue in that after adding the ticket to the cart, it does not show up in the cart that is displayed in the sidebar and the header. Other products show up in these widgets immediately. This is not critical, but looks inconsistent.
