Changing the Portfolio Layout

Hey! I was wondering if it is possible to change the layout of the portfolio page. For example, I would like to make my portfolio page look like a tiled gallery. I have images in both landscape and portrait orientations and I would like to display them as such. As a side note, I would also like for people to click an image and view it in a lightbox on the portfolio page. Is there anyway to override the jetpack portfolio and use a different portfolio/gallery plugin? I have been reading up on a templates a bit and I think that may help but I am not sure.
