Hi, I like the look of your plugin but I have a specific requirement which I wondered if your plugin can do or if you would consider add the functionality as a paid enhancement.

When you are in certain pages in the WP backend e.g. plugins, updates etc WP goes off to the WP repository to check for new updates. The issue I have is that we use a number of plugins that hook into this to check their own sites for updates. This causing a huge lag in the pages loading especially when a plugin vendor does not have good internet connectivity internationally. This problem is amplified when you have a number of plugins that call home on these pages loading.

We currently disable WP Cron and check it using a real Cronjob so WP automatically checks for plugin updates every 12 hours or so which is fine as this has no noticeable effect on the front or back end.

Would it be possible to add an option to your plugin to stop the update checking occurring from anywhere that isn’t from the Cron process but also have an additional button on the plugin page and updates page to force an update check.

Thanks, I really am looking forward to hearing back from you because this could help with a real issue I have with a number of client sites.

We can consider such an option, although this is something that is very specific to your setup and probably very few other people would use such a feature.

    Hi Matthew

Thanks for the reply, I have actually had a plugin custom written to do what I need and have to say (for anyone else interested) it makes a massive difference in performance when you are loading plugins etc and should be in the WP core as an option.

    Cheers

    Nathan
